| Bird watching is not an activity that one associates with Hythe but we are very lucky in that Hythe has some unique areas that make a birding trip well worthwhile.
The foreshore along Shore Road is a Spartina Marsh while just inland behind Shore Road is a marshy, heavily-reeded area where a stream flows out into the estuary.
The Dibden Bay area is home to vast numbers of waders and shore-side birds. Although Associated British Ports do not allow free access to this area there is a "bandstand" within the Hythe marina that overlooks the reclaimed land and a public footpath runs from just outside the Marina entrance round the edge of Dibden Bay to Veals Lane.
