Hampshire's 4,500 charities are lead by over 22,000 voluntary trustees, who do everything from providing helplines to managing playgroups.
The Charity Commission, together with TimeBank, today launches the 'Get on Board' campaign to encourage more people to become charity trustees. We're looking for people with passion and commitment who can give time to making the decisions that matter when running a charity.
There's a lot of help and support available to them from a whole range of organisations as well as the team of trustees that run ever charity. In the Year of the Volunteer 2005 everyone has the chance to make a difference to their local charities and communities.
John Pitman, Chair of Otterbourne Village Hall in Eastleigh, said,
"I started being a charity trustee 30 years ago and I can honestly say it's changed my life. I get so much help from my fellow trustees and an army of local volunteers and I've worked with some amazing people. Our charity makes a huge difference to the community and although it can be challenging, being a trustee is also incredibly rewarding."
Anyone who'd like to know about becoming a charity trustee should go to www.getonboard.org.uk to find out more. |
