Detectives in the new Forest are appealing for witnesses after a 16 year-old local boy was stabbed as he walked along a residential road in Hythe.

The boy was walking along Jones Lane near the junction of Dibden Lodge Close at 5.50pm Tuesday, October 18, having just got off the number 38 Solent Blue Line bus from Totton, which stopped opposite the Arena pub in Southampton Road.

A man approached the victim, grabbed his shoulder and stabbed him with a weapon, in what appears to be an unprovoked attack.

The boy was taken to Southampton General Hospital with a stab wound to his stomach, where he remained overnight, although his injuries are not life threatening. He was expected to be released from hospital Wednesday and will be interviewed. Enquiries are continuing.

The attacker is described as:

  • A man
  • Approx 5ft 10ins tall
  • Medium build
  • Wearing a dark hoodie
Officer in the case, Temporary Detective Constable Amanda Shearsby, of Hythe CID said: “It is important to stress that this is an isolated and very rare incident, but I would appeal to any members of the public who were travelling on the number 38 bus at the time and may have witnessed this incident or seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area of Jones Lane and Southampton Road to get in touch. At the time the incident occurred it was still daylight and it is possible that motorists or pedestrians may have witnessed something and we would urge them to also come forward.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact TDC Amanda Shearsby at Hythe CID on 0845 045 45 45 or the anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
