It may seem a long way off, but we’ve already passed the longest day and the colder weather will soon be here.
With fuel bills rising, now’s the time to plan ahead for a snug and cosy winter by thinking about energy saving and insulation.
But with information about so many schemes dropping on the doormat, how do you decide? Help is available with a telephone helpline offering free, impartial advice.
The helpline – on 0800 512012 – is run by the Energy Efficiency Advice Centre and can help match homeowners with the most appropriate insulation scheme for their needs. It can also advise people on money saving schemes, such as free insulation for homeowners over 60.
Homeowners in receipt of certain benefits may also be eligible for a Government funded grant called Warm Front, which provides up to £2,700 to improve heating and insulation efficiency. Application forms are available from all council offices for anyone who may be eligible.
Help is also available for other homeowners too. Discounted insulation schemes are being offered by the gas and electricity companies because they have to achieve energy saving targets set by the Government. The amounts of these discounts vary but you can choose which company is offering the most suitable deal for your needs.
Cllr Peter Greenfield, New Forest District Councils portfolio holder for housing, urged householders to plan ahead.
“Insulating your home is the most cost effective way to reduce your fuel bills and still have a warm and comfortable home. The great news is that there is a lot of help available and plenty of advice on the best and most appropriate schemes.” |
