Parents called to collect their children as police target anti-social behaviour in Hythe and Dibden

Another high visibility police operation targeting youths who commit anti-social behaviour has taken place on the Waterside.

On Friday evening, (May 5) plain clothes and uniformed officers from Hythe police station were joined by representatives from the force’s Dog Support Unit, in a Safer Streets initiative targeting young people aged between 12 and 18.

Several groups of youths congregating in the North Road and Briarswood Rise areas of Hythe and Dibden Purlieu were stopped and large quantities of alcohol seized and disposed of.

Unlike previous operations, police rang the parents of three teenagers committing anti-social behaviour and asked them to come and collect their children from the street.

“We had many groups of youngsters who were stopped and alcohol seized and disposed of,” said Hythe Sergeant, John McNeill, who headed the latest operation.

“Calling the parents of those causing disturbances was very impactive. Of all the adults who were contacted, not one had any idea that their children were behaving in such an anti-social way. Members of the public can see, first hand, that police are taking active steps to try and address this issue on a regular basis and that officers in the New Forest are committed to improving the quality of life for those living in our community,” he added.

Further high visibility patrols will continue across the New Forest district throughout the coming months, sending a strong message to the public that anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated.
