Warning over telephone bank scam

Over the last few days it has come to light that local residents in the Waterside are receiving telephone calls requesting information on peoples bank accounts. The caller is telling people that their bank owes them some money, around £100 and that is why they need the details so they transfer the funds into the account.

Remember your bank would already have your details on their computer system. Never give out this kind of information to people over the phone, ask for their name and job title, and tell them you will call them back.  Never take the telephone number they may try to give you.
You will find your banks telephone number on the back of your credit or debit cards or on your bank statements.

If you have elderly or vulnerable neighbours please take the time out to pass on the message to them in a gentle way. You could save them from losing a lot of money.
